Disney Is Quietly Bending the Knee to You as You’ve Proven Stronger In the Culture War

A lot of people don’t realize that George Washington didn’t win the Revolutionary War by being a master class tactician. His reputation as one is kind of mixed, actually. His main strength came from being able to pull his army through difficult times that would have stopped other armies cold. He outlasted his opponent until they succumbed to the problems he overcame through sheer grit and determination. Your opponent can be larger, better funded, well-connected, and technologically superior, but if you can last five minutes longer than they can, then all their advantages don’t matter.

Disney, an entertainment mega-corporation, had all the money in the world, and they used it to go to war with the American people on various fronts, both cultural and political. Yet, despite all its power and capabilities, you were a different beast. Try as they might, Disney couldn’t conquer you. Now, without saying so, the stolen house that Walt built is kneeling before you and presenting you its sword.

An interesting piece of news came down the pipe from culture commentator and well-connected Hollywood insider Chris Gore during an episode of YouTuber Critical Drinker’s “Open Bar” stream, hosted by “The Drinker” Will Jordan. During the stream, Gore dropped a very interesting tidbit of information about what’s going on inside Disney/Marvel, emphasis mine:

I do know people who work at Marvel. They have cleaned house, They quietly, months ago, fired all the producers that could be labeled activist

Kevin Feige recognizes… basically, he said that ‘we tried it, it didn’t work.
…
He’s talking about Phase 4. It didn’t work. No Kang. None of these side characters that don’t have the legacy of classic characters. And if Deadpool & Wolverine proves anything, you’ve heard that phrase ‘male and pale is stale’ — that was spoken aloud across studios, but if you look at box office this year, I would say male and pale is money. And that’s the phrase that I think people should more adopt.

To be clear, Gore didn’t present any concrete evidence that this is true, and rumors come out of Disney all the time… but many of the rumors have so far proven to be true. Whistleblowers have been raising the alarm about what goes on inside Disney for some time, and many of them turned out to be factually correct.

Moreover, this comes from Gore, a man who has proven to be a very reliable source of information, so I’m having trouble not believing it. Additionally, this is reinforced by the movie “Deadpool and Wolverine” which I can personally tell you didn’t have an ounce of wokeness in it, and even took a few swings at the wokeness in previous Disney/Marvel movies.

As Jordan brings up in the video above, James Gunn’s DC Universe is about to start picking up as well, giving Marvel something it actually has to compete against, making the fast and loose politicization of its movies more of a problem than it’s ever been.

Does this mean Disney has completely changed its course? Not at all. The battle isn’t done yet.

As Gore pointed out, Disney/Lucasfilm seems to be filled to the brim with activists and that brand is likely lost. I’m not sure what Kathleen Kennedy has on Disney execs, but she must know where the bodies are buried, and she’s going to drag the Star Wars brand down into hell along with her reputation.

It should also be noted that Marvel still has some upcoming releases that aren’t going to be crowd pleasers, such as “Agatha All Along,” and “Ironheart,” both of which are side-character spin-offs and attempts at replacing main characters, likely to carry some form of messaging. So it might be a couple of years before we’re truly rid of that low-point Marvel material, but if Gore is correct, then there are indeed happy times ahead for the superhero genre of movies.

But the more important thing to understand here is that, if this is all true, then this was all because of you.

You outlasted Disney. You rejected and even punished their repeated attempts to normalize what should never be normalized. You made the political invasion that plagued the company from woke activists too expensive. You proved that in the culture war, you’re the stronger.

These activists thought you wouldn’t turn your back and that you’d be easier to convince and control. They thought you were as easily programmable as they were. You proved them wrong. Not only did you publicly denounce them and fight back against many of their agenda items, you supported creators that made the content you actually wanted, effectively creating a successful alternative market these activists didn’t anticipate. You effectively proved that you are the market.

And so, Disney/Marvel is moving on from its failed experiment. There are even signs that Pixar is, too. Eventually, Star Wars will be forced to course correct or fall as well, and the lamentations of woke activist “creators” and their journalist pals will echo from every corner of the internet.

But understand this. Even if these rumors about Disney aren’t true, you’re still winning. That much is certain. As I’ve covered in the past, much of the ESG mandates handed to corporations by investment companies like BlackRock have been cast aside. You’ve cost the ESG movement trillions and trillions of dollars, and many are flat-out turning from the financially destructive practice whole hog.

Whoever said the culture war was unwinnable and that Hollywood should be abandoned likely didn’t foresee this outcome ever happening, but the truth is that you were always the one with the home advantage. In order to succeed, they had to please you, but they wanted you to be pleased with fringe radicalism stemming from ideas formed in an ideological bubble. Ignorant, shortsighted, and disconnected from the real world.

Moreover, it’s all proof that this woke trend was all an experiment that was ultimately destined to fail. They’ll likely try to come back with a different name for it. Rebranding will be attempted, but it will be the same product everyone rejected the first time. Ultimately, the market will move on. It is moving on.

This is thanks, in part, to there being that alternative market as well as organizations and personalities willing to expose the truth about what’s going on in these companies and their intentions behind them. RedState has been one of those websites covering this goings-on in Hollywood, and we’ll continue to do so in order to help win the culture war.
