Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already building her following on Threads, Facebook’s new censorship-filled competitor to Twitter, and she didn’t disappoint with one of her first posts.

The congresswoman responded to another poster asking for people to share their “best and worst food industry stories.” Never one to miss a chance to play victim, Ocasio-Cortez then delivered this tone-deaf and downright sociopathic anecdote.
According to Ocasio-Cortez, a wealthy man would come into her restaurant (or bar) one week a year and perpetrate the absolute horror of “mansplaining” things to her. In turn, he’d give her a $200-300 tip on a lunch ticket if she responded with kindness. I’m literally shaking at the thought. It sounds like evil personified.
What makes this so silly is that she is seeking to make a villain out of someone who was likely completely harmless or perhaps even a sympathetic figure. Was the “really rich guy” coming in because he got some misogynistic high out of teaching Ocasio-Cortez new things? No doubt she would have greatly benefited from such a service, but that doesn’t seem like the most likely explanation.
Isn’t it more probable that the “really rich guy” in this story was an older man who possibly lost his wife at some point (or never had one) and was just lonely? Perhaps he was in New York one week a year for a reason that wasn’t a happy one. Maybe he went to Ocasio-Cortez’s place of employment as a way to disconnect and seek some surface-level companionship.
Human beings have an enate desire for relationships. There are a lot of people in the world who have amassed huge fortunes, but all the money in the world can’t replace the joy of connecting with another person, even in the simplest of terms. Perhaps the man in question just wanted to have someone to talk to? Or maybe he just genuinely enjoyed sharing trivia with others? According to Ocasio-Cortez, though, that makes him a chauvinistic scumbag worthy of online ridicule.
Lost in the far left’s warped idea of boundaries, which don’t exist in far more applicable situations (see your local pride parade), is the fact that some people are just friendly and outgoing. Ocasio-Cortez’s pathology is evidenced by the fact that she’d take something so innocent and try to spin it into victimhood. Besides, can you really be a victim when a guy is giving you hundreds of dollars and all you have to do is listen to a few of his quips? I feel like the definition is sort of being stretched at that point, is it not?
It’s all just so tiring, watching wealthy politicians pretend to be oppressed and downtrodden, often in response to the most mundane things. Newsflash to Ocasio-Cortez: She’s had a pretty easy life. Perhaps she should be thankful for that instead of trying to slag some guy for being nice to her.
