It has often been said that Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) is a national treasure and that there will never be another like him in our lifetimes nor anyone else’s.
I suspect that despite their political differences even Kennedy’s opposition on the left would agree that those two statements are undoubtedly true, though his most recent round of “tellin’ it like it is” might not sit too well with them.
Kennedy appeared Friday on Fox News, where one of the topics of discussion was the wacky word salad Vice President Kamala Harris gave us during the annual Essence of Culture Festival, which took place at the end of June in Kennedy’s backyard of New Orleans.
As RedState previously reported, Harris appeared to befuddle even her fan girl moderators Monica Simpson and Sunny Hostin when she talked to them about her definition of “culture.” Before we get to Kennedy’s remarks, here’s what Harris said for those who missed it:
Well, I think culture is — it is a reflection of our moment in our time, right? And — and present culture is the way we express how we’re feeling about the moment.
And — and we should always find times to express how we feel about the moment that is a reflection of joy, because every — you know, it comes in the morning. (Laughs.) We have to find ways to also express the way we feel about the moment in terms of just having language and a connection to how people are experiencing life. And I think about it in that way, too.
When Kennedy was asked by anchor Trace Gallagher for an analysis of what Harris said, the Senator first pointed out that he did “not hate the Vice President,” and remarked that during her time in the Senate that they had worked together on the Judiciary Committee, noting that they got along “very well” for the most part.
The issue with her word salads, Kennedy explained in so many words, was that the frequency of them proved that she was woefully (and routinely) unprepared. And even when she is prepared, she still can’t express herself in a way the Average Joes and Janes in this country can understand, which is obviously a problem when you’re a so-called world leader.
Ultimately, Kennedy went on to say, it demonstrated that Harris did not have the self-awareness level to understand that she was just bad at what she does because after all this time she still struggles to “sound smart” instead of “being herself” – the latter of which may or may not have been a swipe (I’ll leave that for readers to debate!):
“She’s struggling, and you don’t have to be a senior at Cal Tech to know that, just look at the poll numbers. She’s struggling for a couple of reasons. Number one, she doesn’t appear to be prepared. Number two, no matter how well-prepared you are, you have to be able to express yourself. And with respect, I would say the Vice President needs to work on being a little more articulate. Some [in the Senate] might say that based on her performances, that English is not her first, second, third, or even fourth language.
But number three, you know, I think sound advice for anyone, politician or not, is always be yourself unless you suck. If you suck, have enough self-awareness to know you suck, and try to do better. And I just don’t get the impression that the Vice President is — she’s not being herself. She’s trying to sound smart instead of just saying what she believes and saying it in a clear, articulate manner that the average American who is busy can understand.”
Watch:
In my opinion, Kennedy hit the nail on the head in his assessment of the VP, and his comments dovetail with stories written since Harris’ early days in the White House about how Harris’ ego is so massive that she has a tendency to blame her staff for problems that she herself creates. As the Washington Post reported in December 2021, Harris can’t be bothered to do due diligence on anything she speaks publicly about, so when she ends up getting embarrassed by something she says later, it’s the hard-working staffers behind the scenes who get punished.
As I’ve said before, from the start, Harris been her own worst enemy and continues to be, no matter how much she and her team try to blame everyone but her behind the scenes. She has never been particularly good at what she does, rising to the top in California Democratic political circles thanks in large part to an affair she admittedly had with a powerful married man, and then being chosen as a vice presidential running mate by Joe Biden in part because he promised influential black Democratic lawmakers that he’d pick a woman of color.
The only thing her elevation to the vice presidential role has done for her is to show on a national stage to a disapproving audience what Californians learned the hard way about her long ago.
