Where to begin?
The Associated Press is total trash?
Nope. Already knew that.
The AP is filled with ignorant fools?
We all knew that too.
The AP is a propaganda outlet for the Left?
Sure, but not news.
Actually, come to think of it, I haven’t much new to say about how awful the Associated Press can be. Except, perhaps, that they keep proving my worst fears correct.
By now you probably know that the Associated Press shared offices with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza. They claim that this wasn’t the case, but there is ample evidence–some provided by former AP reporters—that they did and knew about it. What this tells us is that the AP is filled with liars, not just useful idiots.
Yet there is something particularly galling about the Associated Press actually printing a story that suggests the Israeli campaign to wipe out Hamas is, “proportionally,” worse than any other military campaign in modern history.
At least they left out Genghis Kahn, which is to their credit, but they actually did compare Israel’s Gaza campaign to the carpet bombings of Germany in World War II.
In just over two months, the offensive has wreaked more destruction than the razing of Syria’s Aleppo between 2012 and 2016, Ukraine’s Mariupol or, proportionally, the Allied bombing of Germany in World War II. It has killed more civilians than the U.S.-led coalition did in its three-year campaign against the Islamic State group.
The Israeli military has said little about what kinds of bombs and artillery it is using in Gaza. But from blast fragments found on-site and analyses of strike footage, experts are confident that the vast majority of bombs dropped on the besieged enclave are U.S.-made. They say the weapons include 2,000-pound (900-kilogram) “bunker-busters” that have killed hundreds in densely populated areas.
I don’t know much about the actual death tolls in Gaza, and neither does the Associated Press. This is because all the news outlets are relying on Hamas to provide the numbers, which is pretty ballsy of them. Reporting the numbers as coming from the “Gaza Health Ministry,” they imply that they come from harried bureaucrats working under tough conditions to provide remarkably accurate casualty figures.
Such as those that were reported regarding the “Israeli bombing” of a hospital that killed more than 500 people, which turned out to be a misfired Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket that killed an unknown number of people because the entire scene was scoured of evidence before reporters could get there.
In other words, we get nothing but Hamas propaganda reported as fact.
That anybody can take the AP’s reporting on Gaza seriously–and, by extension, any Western reporting seriously–is a testament to the poor state of our education system. Since most Western news outlets rely on the AP for source material, everything is likely tainted.
It turns out the AP’s reporter on the scene graduated from Pomona this year. The college is proud of her accomplishment; I am appalled that she is so ill-educated that she could seriously write a piece like this.
Absorb that fact: the reporter that the AP has writing from Gaza is around 22 years old, covering one of the more complicated regions in the world as if she knows anything. She doesn’t even know about the air campaigns in World War II.
Are we supposed to take this seriously? How can we take anything seriously if it was sourced from the AP?
Seriously. This is pathetic and frankly scary.
