After graduating from law school, I applied for a job at a firm. My wife knew one of the secretaries and it was a five-minute drive from my home. It seemed like a “dream job.” There were four attorneys. All men. Thirty years ago that wasn’t unusual. I was hired at the interview. I was thrilled to have a job right out of law school. I guess they thought I fit in. At first, I liked the crew, but then it became increasingly hard to “fit in.” As time went by, I found out that none of them had any core values that fit mine. Actually, they didn’t have any values at all.
One of them had a habit of staring at his secretary. Another would constantly make jokes about sex. At one “let’s go get a drink” Friday, one guy talked about getting another married man drunk so he would have sex with a prostitute. My heart sank.
The firm hired another lawyer who lasted a few weeks. A woman applied to fill the job. The interview was attended by all the lawyers including me. I found that odd, but I sat in. I don’t recall all the sex jokes, but one involved the size of penises. She laughed comfortably. And, she was hired. She must have been desperate for a job, and she must have also been looking for another because she didn’t last long. I didn’t last long either.
During my career, I witnessed a lot of awful men like the guys from my first job. The biggest jerks were from “Big Law.” They reasoned that they were kings and nasty comments directed at women were – expected. They believed they were above it.
The Kamala Harris Image Machine has presented her husband Doug Emhoff as the “new type of man,” a women’s man. The new masculinity. Doug, said Kamala and her team of fiction writers – he was respectful of women. Then the stories started coming out. Doug wasn’t the virtuous man Harris claimed. The fiction of the “respectful” man started to fall apart. Doug ruined his first marriage. He impregnated his kid’s nanny. When the story broke, Emhoff was silent. The deflection was that he “regretted” it. What he regretted was getting caught.
Then a story broke about Emhoff slapping his girlfriend. The story wasn’t a “he said, she said” – the slap reportedly happened in public, with witnesses. A violent battery. The woman was frightened, and quickly ended their relationship. The witnesses were frightened too. They remain anonymous because they fear the Democrat machine. Emhoff has denied he slapped his girlfriend. Harris supports her husband. What happened to “believe all women,” Kamala?
Now there is a new story. Emhoff was a misogynistic jerk while working in “Big Law.” The Daily Mail reports:
[H]is former colleagues from the Venable Los Angeles office, which he ran from 2006 to 2017, are coming forward with allegations about his ‘inappropriate’ and ‘a**hole’ behavior in the workplace.
They all spoke upon agreement they would not be named, fearing retaliation.
One senior former staffer claimed Emhoff ‘bragged’ about yelling ‘get the f*** out of my office’ to a female partner at the firm, later telling his top male colleagues that he had ‘put her in her place’.
‘She had to ask him something,’ the ex-staffer said. ‘His office door was closed. She said to his secretary, ‘is he on the phone?’ She said no. She tapped on the door, he didn’t answer, so she slightly opened the door and stuck her head in.
‘He said “get the f*** out of my office.”
After reading about his “slapping” incident, I knew that, at some point, stories would come out about Emhoff being “that same guy” while working at his “Big Law” law firm. Men like that don’t change. The image that the Harris campaign has attempted to present of Doug as respectful of women is as phony as the life story of Harris. They are all phony. Harris has tried to create a fiction about her husband, and like everything else she and the “joy team” have tried, it all seems to be a lie.
I never litigated or met Doug Emhoff while I was practicing, but I knew men like him.
Emhoff was known for having a glamorous secretary in her 20s who was ‘unqualified’ but ‘hired because she was young, attractive and friendly with powerful men in the office.
You don’t have to be a genius to know what that translates into.
I looked up Doug Emhoff’s profile on the California Bar website. There is nothing to see. His license is inactive. No information available.
What does it say about Harris? All of these stories tell me that Emhoff apparently is a fraud. He doesn’t “respect” women. It also informs us, again, that Harris makes terrible decisions, including the man she decided to marry.
