Exactly one week ago, I wrote in these pages about the release of American George Glezmann from imprisonment by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Readers might recall his gobsmacked reaction on the airport tarmac, when he was asked to comment on the situation, then his boundless gratitude to President Trump and everyone involved in getting him home after two years poured out. It’s worth watching again.
I also suggested near the end of the story that “considering the track record over just a few short months, this likely won’t be the last U.S. hostage who Team Trump brings home.” But I didn’t dare dream that would happen again so soon.
‘I Have No Words’: American Held by the Taliban for 2 Years Expresses Gratitude After Release
On Saturday, Zalmay Khalilzad, a former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, shared the news of Faye Hall’s release, along with a photo of her in the process of returning to the U.S., on his X account, which then spread like wildfire across social media.
He wrote:
American citizen Faye Hall, just released by the Taliban, is now in the care of our friends, the Qataris in Kabul, and will soon be on her way home
In a similar vein to Glezmann after news of his release broke, Hall made a personal and emotional thank you video on social media, addressed to the president, which Trump shared on his Truth Social account:

This version might be easier for some people to watch:
Here are more details on Hall’s detainment and the process of her release:
An American woman detained in Afghanistan by the Taliban since February has been released, sources told The Post Saturday.
Faye Dail Hall, who was held on charges of using a drone without authorization, was released Thursday as part of a deal Qatari negotiators helped broker, according to a source who briefed on the matter.
Hall was in “good health” after undergoing a series of medical exams when she was received at the Qatari embassy in Kabul, the source said. Arrangements are underway to return her to the United States.
Here’s something I couldn’t help but notice and maybe you did, too, while reading the details: Faye Hall, an American citizen, was held for weeks by the Taliban, not months or years like some of the Americans who languished in Hamas or other terrorists’ clutches during Biden’s time in office. Trump has only been in office for a few months, but it’s like night and day. To paraphrase what some have become fond of saying in recent days, all it took was the American people hiring a new POTUS. Imagine that!
This is a developing story. RedState will provide updates as warranted.
Thanks to President Trump, our great country is no longer the punchline of jokes internationally. Despite the radical left’s lies, righting America’s standing in foreign policy circles didn’t require an extension of the Democrats’ world apology tour, just a new president.
