If nothing else, Democrats are consistent in their absurdity. When they win elections, everything is fair and above board. But when they lose, it can’t be because of the lunacy of their policies and ideas, or their incompetence. No, it’s because the voters, who they want to vote for their party in the future, are, as Rush Limbaugh used to say, racist, sexist, bigoted homophobes. It’s the strategy they use from federal elections, all the way down to state and local races. St. Louis recently elected a new mayor, and the old mayor knows why she lost. Bet you can guess her answer.
On Thursday, in a recent interview with St. Louis Public Radio, former Mayor Tishaura Jones stated that the reason she was soundly beaten in April’s mayoral election and lost to Cara Spencer is…wait for it…the voters of the Gateway city are racists. More specifically, they are on a mission to oust black women in power. Jones was beaten by former Alderwoman Spencer by a 28-point margin. It was one of the widest margins of victory in 50 years.

A bit about the makeup of St. Louis. The northside is predominantly black; the southside is predominantly white. Like any large city, there are good and bad parts in each of those areas. Jones stated that voters simply ignored a significant drop in the homicide rate, from a record high of 40 percent in 2020 to a 10-year low in 2024. She said, “That’s what the people wanted back in 2021. And then they moved the goalposts to potholes and trash and snow removal.” Two of the biggest issues that emerged from the campaign were inadequate trash removal services — trash began piling up in certain areas — and the lack of snow removal on city side streets after a massive snowstorm in January that also left those streets sheets of ice for weeks. Move the goalposts? As mayor, isn’t it your job to walk and chew gum at the same time, to be able to juggle several issues at once?
But Jones’s response got better when she made a pretty broad and unfair statement about Southside voters, saying that when she went there to campaign, no one gave her a satisfactory — at least to her — response as to why they were voting for Spencer, adding, “And if you can’t give me a reason or something that I have particularly done, then the only default is race.” Yeah, that should get Southsiders to vote for you.
As for Northside voters, where crumbling buildings and infrastructure have been an issue for decades, Jones had beefs with them, too. She stated:
“But there’s no patience there. The expectations there are so high to deliver and deliver immediately to address the decades of neglect in four years, and that is impossible.”
Jones bases her pulling of the race card argument on the reelection losses of three other area black women: former Congresswoman Cori Bush, former city Comptroller Darlene Green, and former Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner. Jones also cited her father, former Comptroller Virvus Jones, telling her, “Black women have to work twice as hard to get half as much.” Jones doubled down on the family victimhood mindset, adding, “Well, I feel like we work five times as hard to get nothing in return.” Tishaura Jones’s parting shot to city voters: “I think St. Louis needs to have a conversation with itself about why it no longer trusts Black women to lead. ” Wow.

Once again, proof that there is no shortage of Democrats, for whom it never occurs that their election loss has nothing to do with race or sex, but just that they suck at their jobs. Even Joe Biden, on a Thursday appearance on “The View,” stated as if it were a fact that Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump because she was a black woman. In a word, Americans are racists and sexists. It has also not occurred to them that maybe insulting the people you want to vote for you is generally not a good idea, and the reason they keep losing elections. But they just can’t quit the race card.
But, lucky for Democrats, no matter how much they insult voters, St. Louis will be a blue city for the foreseeable future.
