An Iconic Melania Trump Showed Up at Her Husband’s Second Inauguration Dressed to Do Battle

First Lady Melania Trump’s inauguration outfit, consisting of a double-breasted navy coat and a matching boater hat, spoke loud and clear: Don’t mess with me, my husband, or my family. She is returning to the White House a whole lot wiser and having endured a challenging presidential election in which her husband was targeted more than once by would-be assassins.

Not to mention the fact that she is fresh off of inking a $40 million deal with Amazon and having penned a best-selling autobiography last year. She has a much clearer picture of the dangers posed by the toxic DC Swamp—she’s seen them in action now—and she’s ready to do battle.

Her new attitude was certainly reflected in her choice of attire for the Inauguration Day ceremonies:

Melania Trump leaned into a patriotic color palette for husband Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on Monday.
The former model wore a custom double-breasted navy coat by Adam Lippes and a matching boater hat by Eric Javits, both American designers, for the occasion.
“The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy and today we had the honor to dress our first lady, Mrs. Melania Trump,” Lippes told The Post in a statement. “Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen and I take great pride in showing such work to the world.”

She looked fierce. Her look today can be summed up in one word: iconic.

When it comes to politics, the First Lady has long shied away from the microphone and used her fashion choices to do the talking instead. And, boy, has it yielded some memorable moments.

One of Melania’s craftiest moments was at the October 2016 presidential debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton, herself a former first lady. Albeit of the frumpy kind. You’ll recall that Trump was getting roasted in the press for a rather vulgar thing he had said in an unearthed interview done years before with “Access Hollywood.” Melania was clearly not cowed by any of the furor, and proved it by striding into the debate venue wearing a fuchsia Gucci blouse featuring a hard-to-miss pussy-cat bow.

This time around, it’s the hat. We have to talk about that hat. It’s got serious gangster vibes, and she pulled off the look flawlessly.

According to one report, the hat almost didn’t make it into her Inauguration Day wardrobe because it was crushed while en route to designer Javits’ New York City office. “It looked like it had been sitting in snow drifts for about a week,” he noted. “Obviously, I had to scramble to redo it. It couldn’t really be repaired, because of the construction of it.”

It’s a statement piece that really cements her as the modern First Lady of Fashion; despite the efforts of the left to deny her a place in the fashion world, Melania Trump’s inauguration hat will go down in history alongside Jackie Kennedy’s famous pillbox hats.

Mrs. Trump often opts for very structured and feminine pieces that evoke images of military garb, and that’s on purpose. This is war. And today’s outfit certainly conveyed that. She’s been through a lot these past four years, seeing her husband get shot at and having to tolerate the seemingly endless lawsuits and “Literally, Hitler” barbs aimed at the president.

I suspect Melania Trump has a lot to say to the world, and you can count on her wardrobe to continue to do the talking.
