Donald Trump Concerned After Assassination Attempts: ‘I Have to Worry About Family’

It’s a heck of a thing, to be in a line of endeavor that may not only place one’s self in danger but also one’s family. That is, nonetheless, the position former (and, we can hope, future) President Donald Trump finds himself in today. In an interview airing Saturday evening, Fox News host Brian Kilmeade spoke with the former President, who, in the wake of two assassination attempts, is worried about his family.

If anything, that’s an understatement. Donald Trump has survived two assassination attempts; one, literally by a whisker. His family, many of whom do not have the benefit of an assigned Secret Service detail, are very likely to be targeted as well. It’s wrong; it’s atrocious, in the original sense of the word. But that doesn’t mean it may not happen.

Brian Kilmeade also asked the former President about his campaign and the upcoming vice-presidential debate.

Illegal immigration is a drum that Trump keeps beating, and with good reason. It may well be because of that, in part, that he has been targeted, and why he rightly worries about his family being likewise targeted. But that targeting isn’t all about Trump’s policy positions. It’s about the man himself.

Why should a presidential candidate, regardless of his policy stances, have to worry about this?

Well, perhaps it is the fact that Trump Derangement Syndrome is reaching pandemic levels. Perhaps it’s due to the constant drumbeat of “Trump is Hitler,” “Trump is a fascist,” “Trump is a threat to democracy,” and “Trump will be a dictator on day one” that we hear from the legacy media and Democrat politicians. Perhaps it is that constant demonization that is making every nut with an urge to get his name in the news start thinking about making the next attempt.

And there is no guarantee that the next nut won’t try to strike someone close to the former president.

It’s a fine pass we’ve come to in American politics when a political candidate has to fear for his family’s physical safety. Politics has always been an ugly business; just ask Charles Sumner. But this, this is something new. This Trump Derangement Syndrome that seems to be morphing into something far more sinister is a matter that should concern everyone across the political spectrum. It’s not right. It’s not acceptable. And yet, here we are.

Donald Trump has, hopefully, at least placed some private security around his family. That would be the prudent thing to do.
